PERPUSNAS
A project for Indonesian Government
Web App

Device: Dekstop
Overview
PERPUSNAS is a web-app that helps improve the education system - How do we help the Indonesian government oversee 166,000 official national libraries to ultimately.
Role
UI UX Designer
Product Strategy, User Research, Visual Design, Prototyping & Testing
Background
The Indonesian government have around 166,000 official libraries across Indonesia. National libraries act as learning centres for Indonesian citizens of all ages, everyone is welcome to learn. The libraries provide hundreds of millions of books, digital learning, social activity, and cultural education to help improve the education system across Indonesia.
Problem
These are the initial problems that the client brought up during our first meeting.
As mentioned above, Indonesia has 164,610 national libraries, every national library has its own way of storing data; it creates a data silo. It's challenging for the central government to access information and track performance.
The staffs have to manually input data and create the reporting. Not to mention, some information is stored in a traditional way of documenting which is paper documentation, so it's very fragile to water or fire.
The visitor has to fill in the form for every single book they borrow or any activity they attend.
When it comes to data analytics of the visitors, the staffs have to manually dissect the demographic information to create valuable insights.
The Process

Discovery
I conducted a user research to understand the challenges our clients faced. I found that the product will handle sensitive data, so I need to group users based on their access level. Higher-level users, like those in central government, can access all information, while lower-level users, like village staff, can only see village-related data. This structure ensures that sensitive information is only accessible to the appropriate people.
I prepared questions for interviews, focusing on asking open-ended ones to encourage participants to freely share their thoughts. I structured the interview into three main areas: viewing data, entering data, and reporting data. While I can't share confidential interview results, this structure helped guide the conversation effectively.
Key Takeaways from User Research
Viewing data is not as frequent as the need to Input and report data
Each level has different sub-data that needs to fill out even though it's under the same topic
Reporting is divided into daily, weekly, and monthly
It's important to be able to sort the data based on specific demographic (e.g. gender, age. etc)
Viewing data is better with table style and reporting with graphs (e.g. bar chart, pie chart, etc)
Design Process
Background
My design process began by conducting thorough interviews with key stakeholders to understand their specific requirements, workflows, and pain points. This approach ensured that I was building the wireframes based on direct input from the users, making the early-stage designs highly relevant to their operational needs. The iterative nature of my process allowed me to validate these wireframes with stakeholders, ensuring alignment before moving on to more detailed design work.
High Fidelity Design
Once the wireframes were approved, I transitioned into high-fidelity design. Given that this web application will be used across Indonesia, I had to prioritize accessibility throughout the design process. I incorporated features that would ensure inclusivity, considering the diversity in users' abilities and technical proficiencies. Accessibility was especially crucial given the widespread and varied user base, ensuring that the platform would be usable in both urban and rural regions of the country.
User Testing
Goal
Create a web app that can eliminate data silo so the users can input, view, and report the data in one single place.
Impact
Save time and energy. Users can easily input the data in the same manner, find the data, and create reporting in seconds. The staff across Indonesia now can focus more on creating great education program and social activities rather than doing administration tasks.
Tasks
View the data for each topic from Dashboard/Home Page
Input specific data and submit it
Create a report and export it to Excel/PDF
